Chinese Food
What do Americans know simply as “Chinese food” is a version very small and homogeneous broad knowledge of Chinese cuisine. As a pizza from Domino’s not remotely similar is an Italian pizza, Chinese food, we know very different from what found in China.
There are eight regional cuisines of China: Anhui, Cantonese, Fujian, Hunan, Jiangsu, Shandong, Sichuan and Zhejiang. Moreover, Buddhist and Muslim regions of China have their own kitchen. All these dishes are quite different. Some are exotic spices, some just utilitarian, but all have two things in common – a starch and a vegetable, meat or fish.
The strength in the food is typical Chinese rice, but can also noodles or mantou (steamed bread) are. They are almost always accompanied by vegetables, cooked meat or fish, or a combination of one or more. This combination is very similar to foods from around the world – Italian Pasta and meat sauce, tortillas and beans, beef, beef from the United States and potatoes.
